The TWU have asked Members of Parliament where they stand on sensible changes to our skilled migration program.
Over 74 MPs and Senators from across the political spectrum - Labor, Greens, KAP, DLP and Independent - have signed the Aussie Work Aussie Rights Pledge, committing to;
- Support the protections passed by Parliament in the Migration Amendment (Temporary Sponsored Visas) Bill 2013 as a first step in closing the loopholes in our migration system.
- Oppose any attempt by an incoming Government to reverse these changes.
- Support education and training to ensure that workers in Australia are equipped with the skills for the jobs of tomorrow.
- Continue to address the exploitation of the 1.4 million migrants in Australia on work visas by unscrupulous businesses, particularly 457, Special Purpose Visas (SPV’s), student and 417 working holiday visas.
